Horror movies usually are spine chilling and they make the viewer, sit at the end of the seat, biting his nails - not to mention impact on the blood pressure. Some of them get this outcome by using frightful effects - like an eerie silence followed by a startling sound and a frightful visual. The evil one is mostly a blend of intimidating and gory looks. This horror flick (Demon House), unfortunately, has none of these effects, except the gory component. And also a theme that seems to have been borrowed from The Evil Dead - but then, like my boss says, "Aren't they all?" Demon House kicks off with a bunch of college kids - Vince, Nick, Orson, Reggie and Vince's girlfriend. These kids are out in a van having a ball of a time - by the way Vince is one helluva handsome hunk (he actually resembles Clapton a bit). On their way to a party, they pick up Angela and Abbey, who are collegemates. All's fine until Vince stops to pick up cigarettes, and Reggie tries to pick up some beer using his brother's ID - he's a minor you see. The owner of the liquor store, though, doesn't fall for it. And when he has a hunch that Reggie might give him trouble, he pulls out a shotgun. This is when a very short-tempered Vince pulls away the weapon and turns it on the retailer. Chaos and mayhem start when Vince accidentally shoots a cop who walks in, and has a major shoot-out with the next one who walks in

Somehow, they manage to escape, and since they are fugitives, they hide at a remote, deserted house. From here onwards, it's The Evil Dead all over again - a haunted house, a bloodstained demon that transforms her victims into demons etc. Unfortunately, this movie fails to impress anyone, despite the handsome Vince (played by Kris Hauldenreid), and some very good special effects, like a hand turning into a snake, a face turning into the most gory looking demon etc. Well, what can I say. I guess horror - especially of this nature - surely is on its way out. And this movie is one that you will not miss at all - if you don't watch it, that is. And if you do, you surely would forget it a couple of hours later.
