One of the two friends, veteran Marathi (and now Hindi) actor Atul Kulkarni, was hit with the realisation that he wanted to adapt the Tom Hanks drama for an Indian audience, and he wrote the first draft of the script in ten days. It took another two years for his friend, a certain Aamir Khan, to read the script, and a further few seconds to agree to not only act, but also produce the film.
