MERCURY is just a decent thriller which is worth watching for its experimentation with the silent cinema without actually being much silent. The efforts can be seen in every frame and Karthik Subbaraj does pass the test with flying colours. But it's definitely not his best work, and given the way the audience has turned up on the first day (I watched the Hindi titled version and including me, there were only two persons in the hall), the box office prospects seem rather dim. Still, give it a try. It's really a refreshing experience, and you can't really deny that.

Kartik Subbaraj's Mercury is dedicated to all the silent filmmakers from Raja Harischandra to Pushpak in the opening credits, and to all the victims of corporate greed in its ending credits. These two are quite different sets of people, almost mutually exclusive, and in trying to cater to both, the film ends up neither here nor there.
