Right from the unconventional opening sequence, this one holds the audience's attention, esp. in sequences involving a stereotypical bad guy who seems self aware, but who is in turn playing this for laughs. The use of 3D, esp. in the action sequences is gripping, and said sequences are innovative (from the mind of Gondry after all), and the writing, that pits a clueless lead with his allinone sidekick who could actually be the lead himself, is smart to the extent of exploring the chemistry among the leads and while charting some intimate territory, but falls flat when it comes to the big picture plot, et al. The bad guy's motivations are only elevated by the performance and some zany lines, but not by the screenplay. Wilkinson and Olmos are wasted, - the director makes up for it by having a lot of fun scenarios set up, that allows the leads to be funny while looking cool (esp. the Kato vision sequences). No IMAXDMR rel. for Hyd though.
Pros: Action sequences, 3D, Performances, Humour, Franco's funny cameo, Waltz, Gadgets. Cons: Wilkinson/Olmos wasted, Rogen being Rogen...again, Too-simple motivations for the evil villian, lack of an IMAX release in Hyderabad, lack of a review on this website
