Smelling gratifyingly of fresh cow dung, sun-dried haystacks and buffalo milk, 1 2 3 From Amlapuram hits the screens like a whiff of aromatic cattle breath. Three beefcakes in Hawaian shirts and panchalu are the rage of the town, doing everything together from gallivanting around on their cycles, frolicking with the voluptuous village belle and generally going out on the town every chance they get.
Played by Ravi Prakash, Anil and Raja Sridhar, these pleasantly muscled hunks are all Amalapuramvaallu. They talk the lingo, drink the local grog and slap their thighs with full-bodied, Amalapuram-style machismo.
Along the way, a city girl played by Nitya Das comes to their town. Petite and bonny, she is a beaut by Amalapuram standards. The three guys pounce on her like a pack of hungry wolf cubs and follow her around, play 'house-house' with her, and become her best friends and protectors.
During one of their 'house-house' sessions, one of the threesome tries to get cozy with her, resulting in shock and tears from the bonny chick. The town of Amalapuram that is already sick and tired of the rampages by the three boys, leaps at the opportunity and brands them attempted rapists.
The trio flees the village and goes to Vishakapatnam, and guess what? They run into their lissome lass again. This time she is trying to commit suicide because her possessive fiancé contrived to keep her out of the Hyderabad Open. Oh, yes - this Amalapuram-style femme fatale is also a Sania Mirza style tennis player. She wears short skirts and skips rope to build her stamina, giving ample opportunity to the Amalapuram-style cameramen to close up on her bouncing pectorals.
So her lustful fiancé convinces her equally lustful tennis coach to ask her for a 'favor' if he is to send her name to the Hyderabad Open. The geriatric tennis coach stares at her leaping around like a gazelle on the court, works up enough hunger, and calls her aside and puts forth his proposal.
The bonny chick again collapses into shock and tears, and this time heads for Suicide Point. And that is where her three pals intercept her.
The rest of the story is getting back the chick to her Hyderabad Open form, punishing the culprits, and getting the hulkiest of the three to pair up photogenically with her. That's Ravi Prakash for you.
The story has a happy, all-the-marbles-back-in-their-holes ending. Bonny lass wins the cup and carries the trophy on her shoulders, Amalapuram guys win her and carry her on their shoulders.
The movie on the whole works because it is a pure breed - by Amalapuram, of Amalapuram and for Amalapuram. No mongrelized remix songs, and the lingo never flags. Watch it if you have the stomach to down rural moonshine and the concentration to follow the coarse accent. If not, and that is more likely the case if you are on this site, give it a pass and stick to Bacardi and Prasad's.
