You know that joke. God created Man, and then He rested. Then He created woman,
and after that neither did man rest nor did God. This is the full-length feature.
A story about love in its most pristine and pure form, the world's earliest story,
a story set at a time when inhibitions, anger, fear etc. had still not taken birth,
and a story with a great opportunity to make a soft-porn flick with a holy book
backing it.
Adam And Eve is a black and white movie, and if that is meant to signify the ancientness of the plot, then we can conclude that even American filmmakers utterly lack in imagination. To attempt a portrayal of some more reality in the script, it's a silent film with a narrator, as neither Adam nor Eve had any idea about English. They had that knowledge only after they ate that forbidden fruit.
Anyway, here's the story. God creates Adam in the Garden Of Eden. Adam realizes the funniness of being naked and his ribs get tickled. Thus Eve is born. The nude Adam and Eve prance around in the Garden Of Eden, occasionally making fire and love, both with the same intensity. The narrator, meanwhile, narrates every nuance of all this as if he is trying to help some blind people struggling with their Bible in Braille.
The devil then incarnates as a snake, a python in this case. What forms is a love triangle between Adam, Eve and the python reminding you of the Milind Soman-Madhu Sapre Tuffs shoes ad. After some snuggling and struggling, Eve eats that apple and suddenly realizes that she is naked and runs for cover. Ditto with Adam. The python, meanwhile, makes good its escape.
God throws them out of the Garden Of Eden. With remorse, they cover themselves with fig leaves and leave the Garden, cursing each other. The narrator enlightens us by saying, "This started the onset of the human population," with the concluding scene showing both of them making love among fig leaves. A sequel would perhaps have shown Eve undergoing labor pains and giving birth to Able.
Some good news for the voyeurs (and who else do you expect to find here - the
clergy?) is that Adam and Eve are naked throughout the film, have some intense
lovemaking scenes, and realize that they are naked only at the fag end of the
film. Some realistic movie, this.
