This two-and-a-half-hour long yap-fest featuring bad actors in faked American accents has an emotional IQ lower than that of the average 1-month-old human foetus. And this is what the makers' idea of "recreating" something that originally involved Kamal Haasan is. We're sorry to break the news to them, but plonking air-headed teenage conversations onto the banks of the Niagara Falls doesn't quite spell "cool" whichever way you rotate yourself.

You don't need to have watched the original Maro Charitra to be able to judge this flick. Heck, you don't need to have watched any movie to be able to judge this flick. Maro Charitra Jr. is a bad movie, period, and goes wrong in most things it attempts.

Balu (Varun Sandesh) is this boy from a Brahmin family in the US. He doesn't give 2 hoots about Indian culture, rolls his Rs just the way any faux-NRI worthy of being featured on a marathon session of MTV's One Tight Slap would, calls his mother "sweedar(rr)t", has just dropped out of his Master's Course, and doesn't know the meaning of the Telugu word "manasu".

For him, it is love at first sight, when he sees his traditional neighbour Swapna (Anitha). However, her family is not socially compatible with that of Balu. The neighbours are always at logger-heads with each other, with conflicts that are weighty enough to make a creche-full of squabbling toddlers seem more mature than a Supreme Court empowered constitutional panel.

Naturally, they're against the couple's wishes of getting married. In order for Balu and Swapna to prove that they are indeed in love and don't just want to sleep together, a contract is drawn up that says that Balu and Swapna must be apart for a year if they want to get married. Balu moves out to New York City, where his boss (Shraddha Das) is a lonely but fiercely independent woman. The love story has to also deal with Swapna's bava, who wants to marry Swapna.

Firstly, this film reeks of bad direction - there is no attention to detail, and there are several logical flaws and abrupt changes of scene. Then, there's zero emotional pull in the story thanks to a lack of any real courtship.

Neither of the lead characters has any redeeming qualites, and you don't ever connect to the couple, whether they're romancing or are apart. They're supposedly hep and "today", what with all the webcam chatting and iPhone video recordings, but their mutual attraction only gets more juvenile by the minute. With Balu angrily telling his supposedly future mom-in-law to "shut up" and with Swapna thinking that saying "gudduta" to her future mom-in-law is cute, you know this film isn't into emotional layering of any sort.

Still, it is probably the performances that have the most to do with bringing down the film. The problem of atrocious acting skills is compounded by grating accents by the male members of the cast. Varun Sandesh's "cool dude" attempts make him seem like a parody of himself. The heroine does all her emoting with her jaws and lips, and is mostly an exaggerated version of most exaggerated people you see around.

Urvasi has a major role as Swapna's mother, but her bad lip sync completely ruins the effect of that perfect coastal Andhra accent. Almost everyone else, Naresh included, contributes to the wrecked up set of performances. The only ones who emerge out of this mess dignified are Kota Srinivasa Rao and, much to her credit, Shraddha Das.

Maro Charitra is set in clinical American turf and smacks of trying to pull off a Padamati Sandhya Ragam. However, the visuals aren't innovative or even appealing. In fact, some of the long-range shots are downright cheesy.

As for the music, this is definitely among Micky J Meyer's worst jobs - there's no romance and no melody, but just a tired shadow of some of his earlier work.

Avoid this one.

A clean love story
The Review:
This film Marocharithra is a clean movie that never upsets nor irritates the audience. A total family entertainer.
Coming to the story line this movie is love story, between Balu (Varun Sandesh) and Swapna (Anitha). Balu discontinues his studies because of lack of interest. His father Krishnama Chari (Prathap Pothan ) gets irritation. Mother tries to understand and support Balu. Swapna Balu houses are placed side by side. Swapna’s mother America Durga (Urvasi Old Heroine) a crude immature uncultured village woman and father is a refined understanding person.(Talai Vasal Vijay). After some scenes love emerges between Balu and Swapna. In natural course of time when it was revealed to the parents they naturally, Balu’s father Prathap Pothan, and Swapna’s mother America Durga (Urvasi Old Heroine) rejects the proposal of marriage.. Here comes the drama – An agreement takes place between them. And Panthulu who is a police officer, temple Priest,(Naresh ) is a mediator who stands and finalizes the hot arguments with a proposal of separating them for one year, to test the love whether it is true or false. Balu rejects but Swapna takes the lead and convinces him. And they will be separated. At the end after clearing all problems and when they are meeting again America Durga and Krishnamachari firmly rejects the marriage once again. What happened then is the story.
This is the movie that has got ‘U’ certificate and everyone can see. The dialogues of America Durga and the satires of Krishanamachari’s wife, were simply superb and natural. Many one-liner dialogues break the audience into laughs. Umarji Anuradha the writer of ‘Ye Maya Chesave’ (Directed by Gautham Menon) proved once again her talent beyond doubts with her sharp, sensitive words, with firm comedy punches and with the depth of philosophy and seriousness.
Varun Sandesh improved a lot as a hero. He tried his level best to prove himself. This hero should be very careful in his selection of stories. Heroine Anitha is ok. Here we should not compare with Kamal Hasan and Saritha, because they acted under the direction of a giant director called K. Balanchandar.
Ravi Yadav’s as a cinematographer proved his excellence once again with his lighting skills and applying colors. But his performance as a director is very poor. He failed to handle the script in all important emotional scenes, including at the agreement scene and at the climax. No clarity, always it was covered with dialogues and masked with performances of experienced actors like Kota Srinivasa Rao, Talai Vasal Vijay, Prathap Pothan, Urvasi, Yami Gautam, Naresh, Sandhya, and JanakAadarsh.
Mickey J Meyer as music director, proved his talent once again with his melodies. His songs are excellent.
The back ground scores given by Thaman in many places are with too much of sound. They masked many punches and irritated the audience.
Editor is ok, because in some areas people could not laugh and could not cry because of sharp cuts that are chasing immediately after the shot. An experienced Editor like Marthand K Venkatesh could have taken more care and attention.
The old lyrics used in new tunes were once again gave a feast to the audience. The language feelings used in new lyrics are average. Director could have taken the help of the writer at the selection of lyrics and concepts. Micky should choose and work for worthy sensitive and talented directors to prove his depth, and worth.
Dil Raju should be very careful in selection of Directors for his films. To maintain high success rate he must select those directors who has good emotions and good character and talent… we must not forget the truth that the films of K. RaghavendraRao cannot be handled by K. Viswanth or vice versa… The story emotions and philosophy always demands an equal amount emotional philosophy and convictions with the Director.

This movie really sucks! we better call this is a spoof of original great movie "MARO CHARITRA", have to sue this crew for ruining the original movie! i was really disappointed!

Come on man... this is a remake, it is publicized as a remake, and it does not, even by a tiny bit, do judgment to the original. You have to review a remake as a remake, make comparisons with the original and you'll find umpteen number of flaws and gut wrenching glitches right from the music release - Why remake a classic song by completely changing its tune - what are you trying to prove that your tunes are better than original? if not why do it in the first place. I could not even hear those songs a second time even though the tunes were not bad, I felt sick the first time already. It was the same with the movie itself. It could not relate to the current times. The original was good as it was applicable, what's the point here in this movie's case? And don't say to look at this movie for it's values by not comparing, it's (the comparison) inevitable. If it's an original story OR if it has not been publicized as a remake, I would have given it a chance, but not now, not here. "A remake should be a tribute to the original." If anyone disagrees, I'm sorry, I don't respect your opinion.

Totally screwed up movie.. they could have just done the original in colour at a much less cost.. And Mickey J Meyer was taught only one tune at his school? Somebody please tell him to stop making music..
