Movies which claim to educate the masses about sexual matters but end up as soft porn flicks are dime a dozen. Here is another addition to the list. The movie claims to deal with the delicate topics of Suhaag Raat. But the director apparently wouldn't know delicacy if it came and hit him in the face.
He has made a hotch-potch attempt to cash in on the titillatory possibilities of wedlock, and more important, post-wedlock scenarios. But the censors have been so efficient that there is hardly anything left in the movie. Nothing, except some conversations with blatant sexual innuendoes, and some pieces of advice scattered through the movie (which, I am sure, a 14-year-old will be aware of) to maintain the illusion that it is indeed a sexual education movie.
The story is hardly worth mentioning. Rajesh is a young guy going to get married. All around him seem to think themselves to be experts on sex (his parents included). So this poor guy keeps getting advice and conversations on everyone's favorite topic. The background score for this movie should indeed have been, "Let's talk about sex!" Amazing that a 25-year-old chap wouldn't know such elementary things.
Meanwhile someone shows him the photo of the girl he is going to marry, and there start the dream sequences. Ouch! Then there is a parallel track with a half-clad wife and husband, with numerous children, put in the movie for 'comic relief'. The joke being that the husband can't keep his hands off his wife and they have a new kid each time they are shown on screen. Finally someone tells them about family planning, and the last dialogues of these irritating characters are "Nirodh ki jai ho, Mala D ki jai ho." Can you believe that!
The main story meanwhile ends with the much-touted Suhaag Raat scene, which is hacked off by the censors, drawing shouts of protest from the audience. "Where is the Kissa Pehli Raat Ka?" was the predominant emotion.
By the way, the movie has some atrocious songs, which provide added reason for you to avoid coming within one-kilometer radius of any place playing it.
