Subhavela Review

This movie is surrounded by a bit of mystery. There was a rumor that the print was seized on day one, and everybody's wondering why it has been released in just a single theater, unusual for a Telugu release. But all said and done, this one is just a rip off of Runaway Bride, the Hollywood film starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. The Hollywood version did good business at the box office, but this Tollywood version will have to be a doubtful starter.

As the English title suggests, the movie revolves around a young woman, Satya, (Anu) who dumps her bridegroom at the altar, not once but four times. The reason - her best friend attempts suicide after marriage. This unusual behavior attracts the attention of journalist Surya (Vijay), who begins writing a serial version for his newspaper, which turns into a bestseller.

Comical situations are forcibly thrown in to this lacklustre story. Surya's dad who is desperate to get him married for dowry, his idiotic editor, and his faithful stooge are some of the characters that are meant to enliven the proceedings, but manage to do so only to an extent. When Anu sues them for defamation of character, Surya decides to go to her village and sort things out, but ends up falling in love with her and she reciprocates, ignorant of his true identity.

This leads to some tender moments and family scenarios, which are stale and boring. Finally the time comes for the two to tie the knot. Guess what? She dumps him to and takes flight, only to be stopped by her ex-grooms. Some timely advice from her best friend saves the day.

Though the cast is new, the newcomers fail to impress. The music is rustic and the lyrics are at best amusing. The highlight of the movie is the excellent cinematography. In a nutshell, this is just another average film. The male bashers may have a hearty laugh at the hapless grooms, dumped with a kick on their butts.
