I have no words for this one. From the minute that the movie started, I was cursing our industry for giving people the confidence that they can make any sort of trash, call it a movie, and make people pay to watch it! Then again, the very fact that there were people in the theater shows the kind of punishment that we accept again and again.
As for the story - it's a real effort to call it one - a very modern girl, ironically named Gundamma, comes to live with family friends to study medicine. The daughter, Sampangi, is also doing the same course. They are the cynosure of all eyes in the college. There is a lawyer Madhav whose friends study in the college, and he falls for Sampangi.
The whole story supposedly revolves around this central theme. The other characters who stretch the story are Sampangi's womanizing, drunkard brother-in-law, her 'bava' - the guy she's supposed to marry. The majority of the scenes involve Madhav and his friends who are constantly trying to help Madhav woo Sampangi. They, in fact, carry the movie, and generate the meager interest.
Gundamma is the bubbly, chirpy kind of girl, and her overacting gets on your nerves. There is a final twist in the story when Gundamma is murdered, and the last 10 minutes or so might just hold your attention, to know who the killer is.
Reading this as it is might make you wonder why I am so critical of the movie.
The reasons are so many - the horrible editing, the disastrous dubbing, the absolutely
deplorable dialogues, a sea of side-plots... The (non-existent) story has more twists
than a 1 hour long hula dance performance. Such films truly showcase the class
of higher budget mainstream movies that have the big stars, and put their performances
in the right perspective. Frankly, even 'C' grade semi-porn flicks will hold your
interest longer than this excuse for a movie!
