This one was released shortly after 'Basic Instinct', in which Sharon Stone crossed
her legs minus her underpants and had all the men in the world drooling. She played
a suspected psycho, but this time around the roles have switched. Sliver does
not belong to the genre of the great Hollywood psycho thrillers, but it definitely
is a decent flick with good direction, a fast paced script and an impressive star
cast.
Welcome To 112, a plush uptown apartment, the residents here are a mixed bunch
of high profile professionals and celebrities. The movie begins with a pretty
lady being thrown from the 16th floor by a mystery killer. End of scene. Clare
Norris (Sharon Stone), an editor is the new resident in the building. She is coming
to terms with her broken marriage, she is heart broken, sexually frustrated and
lonely. But there is something spooky about 112, everybody is constantly being
watched by some mysterious person with the aid of state of the art surveillance
technology.
Clare bumps into William Baldwin, who resides in the building and there is a mutual
attraction. She also attracts the attention of Berenger, a famous novelist who
is another resident at 112. One day Clare receives a telescope as a gift and the
irresistible urge to snoop gets the better of her and she turns into a regular
peeping Tom. Of the advances of the two, she settles for Baldwin and after they
spend the night together, Baldwin reveals that he is the owner of 112 and takes
pleasure in snooping. Every apartment in the building is fitted with hidden cameras
and Baldwin watches every move his tenants make. Initially Clare enjoys the thrill
of snooping but soon realizes that Baldwin is a sick man who is obsessed with
snooping and will stop at nothing to get his sick pleasure. She sets about trying
to solve the mystery of the murdered woman and eventually proves that Baldwin
is the murderer.
The movie attempts to depict the kinks in the human psyche and the extremes to
which it can go. Sharon looks as gorgeous as ever and she fits Clare's character
like a glove. This one is a good flick to watch.
