If you have already watched Sahasanari... last week in the theaters, then
watching this would inflict unspeakable trauma on your already battered psyche.
This one is the original of the above-mentioned movie. An episode
of National Geographic would have been more informative and entertaining than
this movie. The gore just makes one squeamish.
The story is one of the countless adventure movies, shot in the jungles of the
dreaded Amazon. An extremely attractive looking wife (a must in these movies)
is in search of her husband who is lost in the deep jungles of the Amazon - now
where'd we hear that before? Yes, yes, it has an Indiana Jones lookalike guide,
a hidden treasure, greedy gold diggers, crocs and snakes and, to top it all, a
tribe of cannibals! But what it doesn't have is talented actors, directors and
a decent script.
After a lot of trekking, skinny-dipping in rapids and fatal encounters with the
wildlife (a little too graphic for comfort), the now depleted group finally arrives
at the treasure. The cannibals capture them, and we have some very graphic scenes
of ritualistic cannibalism. The guide and the attractive wife are the only ones
who escape. It had to happen.
A word of advice - avoid this movie like the plague!
