2 Fast 2 Furious Review

Welcome to the world of fast women and faster cars! Nope, we didn't get the order wrong, and we are not MCPs either. Despite all the respect we have for their ability to stoop down to our level in their quest to become our equals, we still think it is unfair to expect a 160 mile an hour woman, even if she is Marion Jones!

So, how fast do you like it? Put that top down, fill up that tank, pressurise those nitrous oxide cylinders, clean that carburettor, get in the saddle, push that gas pedal all the way down, and rip away with the wind in your hair and, as Jolie said in Gone In 60 Seconds, that orgasmic feeling in the seat of your pants. I never got how racing cars could ever be better than having sex except may be for the itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny fact that you car will never say, "Not tonight, darling. I have a headache!"

Last time around, Brian O' Conner (Paul Walker) was a rookie cop trying to bust the truck-jacking racket. This time he is a former cop turned outlaw. Former because he had let Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) escape in The Fast And The Furious as he "owed him a ten second car", and outlaw because he has gotten into street racing, big time.

We have the delectable Monica Clemente (Eva Mendes) working under cover to bust the Miami drug lord, Carter Verone (Cole Hauser), who for some reason needs a couple of street racers to get his cash out of town. You see, a supercharged, twin exhaust, force fed car racing down the freeway is going to attract a lot of attention. Two of them will more than double that attention, and that means high-speed car chases! Teaming up with Brian is another outlaw, Roman Pearce (Tyrese).

Basically, that is all you need to know - in fact you do not even need to know that. Because the film keeps you on the edge of your seat from scene one up until the last scene. And, those scenes that lack action make up for it with Eva Mendes. She is absolutely delicious and you seriously rue not bringing a spoon with you to lap her up with.

Yes, it is highly clichéd and hackneyed - not much unlike what we in India have been trained to expect. But what sets it apart from its predecessor is the high-octane turbocharged action. In more ways than one, it is better than its prequel, and that, I suppose, is the highest accolades a film can be showered with.

If you are looking for a film with an amazing storyline, watch Amelie. If you want to see fabulous editing, watch Citizen Kane. If you want special effects, watch AI: Artificial Intelligence. But if you want a true blue adrenalin rush (without putting your life at risk), then catch this flick. It is all about stunts and more stunts that you can never get enough of.

A film is supposed to entertain. How it does that is immaterial. What's the point in making a 'piece of art' that the 'classy' crowd appreciates only for the fear of being ridiculed? The average movie-goer is not bothered whether the camera zooms or tracks, or whether the lights are dim or bright. All they need is two hours of the everyday-hassle forgetting entertainment. And if a film that hardly has a script to talk about does that, then so be it.
