There have been many movies made about the moralistic cop, but this has to be
one of the best ever. Over 12 years since this film was originally released, it
still attracts crowds. This was the movie that launched Rajasekhar to stardom.
His role as a tough, no-nonsense cop impressed audiences tremendously. In fact,
all later Telugu films in the police-genre have been inspired by this movie. Chiranjeevi's
foray into Hindi, Pratibandh, was a remake of Ankusam. This movie
showcased the acting potential of Rajasekhar. Another brilliant aspect of this
movie was the use of fresh and unknown actors who suited their respective roles
to the T.
The story revolves around the life of Rajasekhar, an orphan who is brought by
a honest and righteous school teacher. He grows up to be an equally honest and
tough cop who fears nobody, and his beloved teacher goes on to become the Chief
Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Their honesty soon becomes a threat to the corrupt politicians and the underworld.
It is when Rajasekhar unearths a plot hatched to kill the CM that movie gets thoroughly
engrossing. The rest of the movie deals with Rajashekar's solo effort to save
the life of the CM. Rami Reddy plays the role of the underworld don, and does
it to so well that you begin to loathe him. The direction, the script and songs
are excellent, and every actor has given a performance that you will remember.
